The watchmaking goes back three generations. Maurice Barouh was a Belgian watchmaker in the 1940s; his son Jack carried the trade to Latin America and built a name interpreting fashion as much as movement. In 1995 Jack and his wife Rita founded MICHELE, naming it after their eldest daughter. She joined the business in 2000 and is the creative director today.
Miami is where it landed and where the design language comes from. Art Deco South Beach, hand-set diamond cases, mother of pearl dials. These are watches that are unapologetically decorative, built to be worn as jewelry that happens to tell time.
