Bassali Jewelry is a Long Island story. David and Efi Bassali built the house in Great Neck and have spent more than forty years there, which puts them about forty minutes west of our own bench in Saint James. We do not carry many lines whose designers we could drive to see before lunch.

The work is quiet by design. Every piece is hand-set in 14K gold with genuine diamonds and gemstones, and the aesthetic runs deliberately delicate and minimal. These are not statement pieces competing for attention. They are the earrings that go on every morning without a thought, the pendant that layers under a collar, the band that stacks with what is already on the hand.

Look across the line and small motifs keep surfacing, palm fronds and clovers, turtles and compass roses, set in yellow and white gold and paired with freshwater pearl, mother of pearl, black agate and opal. Each one reads as a small charm rather than a slogan, which is what makes them easy to give and easier to wear every day.
