Kendra Scott started the company in 2002 with five hundred dollars, three months after her first son was born, working out of Austin. It is now a billion-dollar brand and she still lives and designs there, which is unusual for a company that size.

What made it work is the shapes. The stones are cut into custom silhouettes rather than standard calibrated sizes, so a Kendra Scott piece is identifiable from across a room without a logo anywhere on it. They report more than sixty-five million dollars given to causes, along with a leadership institute for women entrepreneurs at the University of Texas and a foundation launched in 2023.
